Third graders from Oak Grove and Lake Road Elementary tied during the 10th annual Spelling Bee Championship on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Fox Radio Network, completing the entire word list.

Audrey Davis of Lake Road and Kelsey Dunlap of Oak Grove spelled a total of 190 words correctly live on air at KYEC 98.3FM in Poplar Bluff. Their opponents, who were finalists in a three-week tournament at their respective elementary schools, included: Abigail Spain of Eugene Field, Laynie Riggins also of Oak Grove, and Layla Todd of O’Neal.

“I’m thinking Poplar Bluff has close to 400 third graders,” said Kathern Harris of the Butler County Community Resource Council, the event sponsor. “You all are the cream of the crop for spellers.”
